Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to cefixime and other cephalosporins.

Special Precautions

Patient w/ history of penicillin allergy. Renal impairment. Childn. Pregnancy and lactation. Monitoring Parameters Periodically monitor renal function. Observe for signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis during 1st dose.

Side Effects

Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, loose stools, dyspepsia, flatulence, anorexia, pruritus ani, dry mouth; headache, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia, somnolence, malaise, fatigue, seizures; thrombocytopenia, thrombocytosis, leucopenia, leukocytosis, eosinophilia, decreased Hb concentration and haematocrit; transient increases in AST, ALT, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, LDH, BUN and serum creatinine; genital pruritus, vaginitis, vag candidiasis. Anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, drug rash w/ eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS). Rarely, dysuria, pyuria, prolonged prothrombin time and partial thromboplastin time.

Drug Interactions

Increased prothrombin time (w/ or w/o bleeding) w/ anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin). Increased plasma carbamazepine concentrations w/ concomitant use. Increased bioavailability w/ nifedipine. Increased serum concentration w/ probenecid.
